Sabr Ka Phal Meetha Hota Hai…!

The Ocean of Patience: Why Waiting with Integrity Always Brings Rewards

By Dr. Sunil S Rana

“Plenty of fishes are there in the ocean,

If you have got something worth biting, eventually the fish will find you.

You just have to be patient!”

This simple yet profound thought carries a timeless truth: patience is not passive; it is power. In our fast-moving world where everyone wants quick results, the art of waiting with honesty and integrity is often forgotten. But if we look back at our own Indian heritage, philosophy, and great personalities, patience has always been celebrated as the virtue that separates the ordinary from the extraordinary.

Patience in Life’s Ocean:

Life is like a vast ocean filled with countless opportunities. Just as a fisherman waits quietly for the right catch, we too must persevere in our pursuits. Impatience often drives people to compromise on values or to give up too soon. But patience, combined with consistent effort, eventually brings rewards beyond imagination.

There is an old Indian saying:

“Sabr ka phal meetha hota hai” - The fruit of patience is always sweet.

This maxim is not just poetic- it is practical wisdom. Those who wait with integrity find not just success, but meaningful success.

Lessons from Indian Epics:

  • Lord Rama in the Ramayana waited patiently for 14 long years in exile. His patience and adherence to dharma not only restored his kingdom but also made him Maryada Purushottam—the ideal man.
  • Pandavas in the Mahabharata endured humiliation and exile. Yet, they never abandoned faith in justice. Eventually, with patience, strategy, and integrity, they reclaimed their rightful place.

These epics teach us that destiny favors those who can wait without losing heart.

Patience in Indian Thought Leaders:

  • Mahatma Gandhi: The father of our nation exemplified patience through Satyagraha. He once said,
“To lose patience is to lose the battle.”
By holding on to patience and truth, Gandhi ji moved an empire without raising a weapon.
  • Swami Vivekananda: He emphasized that strength comes from patience and perseverance. His advice was,
“Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life… wait and work patiently, and success will come.”
  • Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam: India’s ‘Missile Man’ faced several failures before ISRO and DRDO tasted success. His life itself is proof that patience in the lab brings miracles in the sky.

Idioms and Sayings that Inspire Patience:

  • Rome wasn’t built in a day - Great achievements require time.
  • Slow and steady wins the race - Remember the tortoise and hare? Patience, not haste, ensures victory.
  • Good things come to those who wait - Success is not instant coffee; it brews slowly but richly.

Indian ethos adds its own wisdom:

  • “Udyogam purush lakshanam” (Effort is the true mark of man).
  • “Dharmo rakshati rakshitah” (If you protect righteousness, it will protect you).

Both remind us that honest, patient effort is never wasted.

Application in Every Walk of Life:

  • For Students: Don’t get disheartened by slow results. Knowledge is like a tree- it takes years of watering before it bears fruit.
  • For Teachers: Imparting values and wisdom may not show immediate results, but seeds planted in young minds grow into mighty trees.
  • For Professionals: In business, medicine, law, or any field, shortcuts may bring temporary gains, but integrity with patience ensures lasting success.

The Message:

Patience is not about waiting quietly; it is about waiting with faith, effort, and integrity. Just like the fisherman trusts his bait in the ocean, we too must trust our honesty and hard work.

As the Bhagavad Gita reminds us:

“Karmanye vadhikaraste, ma phaleshu kadachana” – You have the right to perform your actions, but never to the fruits of action.

So keep trying, keep working, and keep waiting. The ocean is vast, the fishes are many, and sooner or later, the right one will find you.

Conclusion:

Never lose heart. Patience is not weakness; it is silent strength. And when combined with integrity and perseverance, it always brings the sweetest fruits of life.
